The Territory Wildlife Park as a Government Business Division of the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security (DEPWS) as part of the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife division.
It is a registered zoological park and a centre for conservation, research and education and an accredited member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA) which represents zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries and wildlife parks across Australasia that operate to the highest standard.
The park connects visitors with the natural environment through authentic wildlife encounters and exciting nature-based experiences. It plays an important role aiming to inspire change and long-term action by developing environmental awareness. It plays a central role in facilitating and advocating important conservation programs in Northern Australia in collaboration with other stakeholders. It is an integral part of the wider Top End community, underpinned by a strong public sentiment as a community asset. The park also, very importantly, provides Darwin, rural area residents and visitors to the Top End with recreational opportunities.
The Territory Wildlife Park is home to 2 registered Aboriginal sacred sites. A high level of care and consideration is maintained for these areas in order to avoid any disturbance or affect their natural state. The park is committed to grow a strong Aboriginal cultural connection between the park and its guests.
